Home Improvement

We offer a range of services to maintain, repair, alter and improve your home.

Painting

Painting can transform a space into something special. It’s usually the final aspect of work which can make or break a project. With years of experience we’ll come and talk to you about your requirements, listen to what you would like to achieve and then make suggestions. Whether you want to source the paint yourself, get us to, caulk the skirting boards, fill any holes, tape off areas, have washable surfaces etc. we can offer an opinion.

Your job can be residential or commercial, big or small – our rates can reflect the size of the job from an hourly rate for something small to daily rates or fixed price jobs. Both internal and external jobs are taken on with the obvious caveat that external jobs are weather dependant.

Roofing

As roofs come to the end of their lives it is important you make the right choice to get a replacement. Having done many roof swaps we have plenty of experience on the common roofing decisions such as tile type, batten spacing, ridge options, dry verge, ventilation, breathable felt, lead work and more. Big roofing jobs are hard work but with the right people with sound knowledge the process is sped up. You can rely on us to expose your house for as little time as possible while old tiles/slates are off and new ones are going on.

We are also ready to look at existing roofing problems and make small fixes such as renewing the lead, switching out an old slate, repointing a chimney as well as related roofline work such as facias and guttering. We can also switch flat roofs to more robust GRP solutions.

You can contact us for a quote any time you like and we can provide options of a fixed price or sometimes clients like to get stuck in and we’re fine to switch to a daily rate. Whatever suits you best.

Pointing and Brickwork

One of the most overlooked aspects of property maintenance is that of the pointing between brickwork. This crucial mortar is what binds your bricks together and provides the real strength to a wall. Older properties can have a more porous lime based mortar which lets water seep both ways. Newer houses on the other hand tend to have portland cement which is better for speed of construction and is very strong. When repointing we’ll rake out old mortar (very messy!), brush out, wash out and then damp before repointing and ensuring the new mortar is pushed back into the joints. We can then set the finish to match your existing work.

We’re more than happy to replace damaged bricks or to engage in regular brickwork such as building retaining walls or bricking up doorways. We work with a range of suppliers to try and get the best brick match gut keep in mind existing bricks that have been exposed to the elements for decade after decade will look a lot different from when they were new.

Good pointing and brickwork can make a property look and perform well. Poorly done it can cause no end of problems. It’s a job worth taking time to do well.

Fencing

Fences often form the boundaries on properties so need to be robust and hard wearing. Having built many fences we’re well versed in what makes a good fence. Issues such as soil type, depth and width of fence hole, size of post, post spacing, evenness of ground and more are all combined to give the best output for the situation. If you then look after that new fence with regular treatment it will serve you well for many years.

To get a basic estimate for a fence all we really need to do is pay you a visit and measure up whilst discussing what your desired outcome is. Is it for a basic low fence between gardens? Do you want a feature hardwood look? Happy with standard pine boards? What about modern slatted fences? Double boarded for privacy? Get in touch and we’ll pay you a visit to talk things over.

And more…

  • Gutters, fascias and general roofline
  • Patios
  • Concrete pads
  • Skirting boards

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge?

This completely depends upon the job. If it’s a small bit of work like a few hours painting then it can be a low hourly rate such as £20 an hour. For larger painting jobs this can switch to £150 a day. For other work such as roofing the rate can be between £160 and £200 a day. Also for larger jobs a fixed price quote can be given. In addition to labour we would pass on the cost of materials and consumables used.

Can I pay for the materials myself?

Absolutely. We’re happy to be completely transparent on materials which you can pay yourself. You can also source directly yourself if you’re that way inclined. For example many customers go and buy their own paint. For other work most clients are happy to us to use our suppliers and take care of everything.

How long until you start my work?

Typically we are booked up about 6 weeks in advance with the odd free day in there as the weather always gets in the way from time to time. Small jobs can be easily slotted in at short notice but larger ones are typically booked 4 to 6 weeks in advance.

Do I need to pay in advance?

Anyone who asks you to pay in full up front is having a laugh. We’ll only ask for a deposit up to 50% if there are a large amount of materials to be purchased. The balance is paid at the end when you’re happy with the job.
